The Gospel Quartet Community and South Carolina has lost one of the last radio stations that focused on local gospel quartet groups, WLGO. WLGO, 1170 AM, was a small station of about 10,000 watts located in Lexington, South Carolina. On yesterday it went off the air as a gospel music format station. Though small, it was a big voice in the gospel music community in South Carolina. The general manager of the station for the past thirteen (13) years was Ms. Blanche Goodson.
There remain at least four (4) radio stations in the midlands of South Carolina that play gospel music. However, these stations do not begin to pay attention to the local gospel artists as did WLGO.
No longer will there be a radio station in the Columbia market that will keep you up to date on what is going on in the gospel quartet community, local or national. To say that the lost of WLGO will be felt by the community is putting it lightly. There will be a huge void in local gospel quartet music radio airplay.
It is certain that Ms. Goodson and her staff will move on the bigger and better things. For, they were dedicated to the local gospel quartet community and we do believe they will be rewarded for allowing the local gospel quartet groups to share daily their praise and worship of our Lord and Savior in song.
