Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lite's Anniversary

About 2000 people witnessed the best in quartet gospel music on yesterday at Lower Richland High School, Hopkins, South Carolina.  It was the anniversary and celebration of Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites.  The program began on time, at 5:00 P.M., and ended about 11:15 P.M.

The program began with prayer by the promoter and emcee Loretta Coleman.  The order of appearance was Antioch, The Gospel Redeemers, Voices of Faith, Luther Barnes and The Sunset Jubilaires, The Jackson Southernaires, Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites and Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC's.

Antioch, The Gospel Redeemers and the Voices of Faith are considered local groups.  However, the word "local" does not do justice to the talent that each of these groups possess.  They were excellent.

Luther and the guys sang "Still Holding On," "Satan Take Your Hands Off Of Me," "Jesus Cares," "It's Your Time," "Heaven On My Mind," and many other songs.

The Jackson Southernaires followed.  Huey spoke about Roger Bryant and the 22 years he was with the group.  Huey indicated that he would be greatly missed.  And, he was last night.  However, the Jackson Southernaires did a good array of songs.  Such as, "Grace and Mercy," "The Blood Of Jesus," "I Can Do All Things," "Beulah Land," and several more old and new songs. Although they were good, the second lead singer, Roger Bryant, was really missed.

Then it was time for the Doctor to take over. Doc and the guys ministered in the way only they can. They sang "Tell Jesus," "I'll Be Alright," "I Won," and many more that were requested by the crowd.

Lee William and the Spiritual QC's closed the program with "Good Time," "Right On Time," "I Can't Give Up," "Running For My Life," "Jesus Is Alive And Well," and many more of the crowd's favorite.

During the program Senator Kay Patterson and Senator Darrell Jackson present Doc with a Resolution from the South Carolina Senate, a Resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives and a Resolution from the United States Congress.  In addition, the City of Columbia gave special recognition to Doc for his years in the gospel music industry.

This is one anniversary that will be the subject of conversation for many years.  We commend L. C. Ministries for recognizing Doc and The Hi-Lites and for putting on a great anniversary program.
