State Senator Kay Patterson, one of the longest serving state senators in South Carolina, was honored with a concert featuring the Legendary Slim and The Supreme Angels. The concert was held at Brookland Baptist Church's Wellness Center. The concert was the brainchild of Loretta Coleman of L. C. Ministries. Along with L. C. Ministries, the program was also sponsored by Construction Dynamics, Inc. Nathaniel Spells, Sr. is the CEO of Construction Dynamics, Inc. He is a strong supporter of gospel quartet music.
Along with Slim, Women of Strength, Voices of Faith and The Six Voices of Zion were also on the program. The groups really ministered to those in attendance. It was a great program.

Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites
We have learned that Robert Holland is no longer with Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites. Apparently, Robert has decided to venture out on his own. Robert has been an integral part of The Hi-Lites. His unique vocal talents will certainly be missed. However, The Hi-Lites have weathered the storm of change in personnel before. Each time a member is replaced, it seems that the group gets stronger and stronger. Furthermore, the addition of new members aid in keeping the group’s sound fresh. So, we know that whomever Doc McKenzie gets to replace Robert will be the right person for the right time.

Bill Pinkney & The Gospel Drifters
In a recent conversation with Mr. Pinkney, we took a trip down memory lane and he shared stories about his days singing rhythm and blues; and on his conversion to gospel music. He voiced his sincerity in singing the Good News and his desire to touch the heart and soul of everyone in the audience wherever The Gospel Drifters may be ministering in song.
In addition, Mr. Pinkney indicated that promoters need to be aware that there are several imposter groups that claim to be The Gospel Drifters. In some cases, former members of Bill Pinkney and The Gospel Drifters, or of The Gospel Drifters, or of Bill Pinkney’s Gospel Drifters are booking engagements using the names owned by Mr. Pinkney. On several occasions groups have been prevented from taking the stage because they falsely proclaimed to be The Gospel Drifters. Mr. Pinkney indicated that all efforts will continue to be made to prevent anyone from misusing the names of his groups; and that includes the name The Original Drifters.
So if you are a promoter, be aware that there is only one person legally entitled to the use the name Gospel Drifters or The Original Drifters. It does not matter whether a person put their name in front of “The Gospel Drifters” or “The Drifters” or “The Original Drifters,” if you have not booked the group through Mr. Pinkney, you are not getting someone that is authorized to use these names. Also, it does not matter that the person may try to substitute a particular letter in the word Drifters. For instance, if someone tried to use the name “Driftors” or “Driftars” this is just as wrong as using the word Drifters.
We encourage promoters to maintain a high level of integrity and do not book anyone claiming to be The Gospel Drifters or any variation of The Gospel Drifters unless it is Mr. Pinkney's group. If you have any doubt about someone who may be using these names, or whether the group you desire to book is in fact the real Gospel Drifters, just contact Gloryland Gospel and we will put you in touch with Mr. Pinkney.
